The event will also support interoperability between different metaverses, with designers presenting on the Spatial and Over platforms.

The term ‘metaverse’ arrived second in Oxford’s competition for ‘Word of the year’. Research conducted by Oxford academics concluded that the use of the term increased by nearly fourfold compared to the previous year.

The metaverse and its potential utility remain steady in the minds of consumers. Data from a survey conducted by Capgemini revealed that 93% of surveyed consumers said they are curious about the metaverse. Of that number, 51% said they would use the metaverse as it becomes more accessible to them.

Epic Games announced the launch of a new feature called “Cabined Accounts.” These accounts are designed to keep children safe in the metaverse through parental control and disabled features.

The Capgemini study is super interesting! The 93% curious stat is particularly interesting, especially given the narrative of skepticism you often see online. Also interesting that the report notes that 43% of people want the metaverse for interacting with family and friends -- above use cases like work and gaming... Supports a view that one of the first mainstream use cases will be casual interactions with friends & family -- perhaps something like the VR version of Facetime.
